Understanding ISO

ISO is the international standard organization. Or the sensitivity to light. By changing the shutter speed you are measuring how much ISO you need, if you're in a bright lit up area it is more likely you will have a lower ISO. But if you were to be in a dark room you would want to adjust your ISO to a larger number. Now if you have a small ISO your picture will me smoother while the larger the ISO its more grainy. Aperture,ISO, shutter speed create whats called an exposure triangle. So if you were to be in a bright your room your shutter speed will be fast and ISO will be small because you want to expose not as much light as you can while in a more darker room your shutter speed is slower and your ISO is larger because you want to expose as much light as you can.

Lower ISO

Higher ISO

Understanding Shutter Speed

Shutter speed is the amount of time the shutter is open when taking a picture. By changing the the time of how long your shutter is open, if you were to have a larger shutter speed it means you are letting more light in and might have a blur movement. Now, if you have a smaller shutter speed it means you are letting less light in and deal with a frozen movement. Aperture, ISO and shutter speed all come together to create an exposure triangle. The shutter speed affects the aperture because the larger the shutter speed the larger the aperture since you exposing the sunlight longer. Now, if you have a smaller shutter speed you have a smaller aperture since your only have a small amount of time exposing the sun to the camera.

Understanding Aperture

Aperture is the size of the opening in the lens when a picture is taken. By changing the aperture in a camera you are adjusting how much light you are letting in the camera. The smaller the f/stop # the more light you are letting in, while the higher the f/stop # the less light you are letting in. Now if you have a smaller f/stop number then there is more light in the photo, with a small depth of field. While with a larger f/stop # there is less light in the photo, with a larger depth of field, and also the focus is more clear.  Aperture, ISO, and Shutter speed all come together to create whats a called an Exposure Triangle. The aperture affects the shutter speed so the lower the f/stop # the faster the shutter speed, while the larger the f/stop # the slower the shutter speed.

Photographic Themes

This was a very fun yet challenging project to do. But in the end it was interesting what my mind came up with for these words. My favorite photo I took was the knife standing up, because what originally happened before I took this photo was me walking around my kitchen and my whole house looking for something terrifying.  I couldn't think of anything so I just stuck a knife onto a cutting board and the picture was born.
